About the Owner & Instructor

Born and raised in San Francisco, CA, Baldwin Chu has been active in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu since 17 years old. He earned his black belt from Jake Scovel and Kurt Osiander at the renowned Empire Jiu-Jitsu Academy in San Francisco.

Throughout his journey, he's remained an active competitor at every belt level, a few accomplishments include medaling at the worlds biggest tournaments such as IBJJF Worlds, Pan Ams, and many more.

Known for his aggressive guard and technical ability along with a smothering crossface - which inspired the academy's name - Baldwin's teaching style blends old-school jiu jitsu with modern grappling techniques. His approach emphasizes the attention to detail and importance of building a strong foundation while adapting to the evolving landscape of BJJ.
