Krossface Jiu Jitsu Head Coach Competes at IBJJF Sacramento Open 2026

Krossface Jiu Jitsu Makes Its IBJJF Debut at the Sacramento Open

On Saturday, October 17, head coach at Krossface Jiu Jitsu, Baldwin Chu, stepped onto the mats at the IBJJF Sacramento Open. It was a huge milestone for our academy. This was the first time a Krossface Jiu Jitsu competitor represented us as an officially registered IBJJF academy!

A Dominant 13-0 Opening Win

Baldwin competed in the Black Belt Master 1 Light Weight divison, which was stacked with experienced, high-level opponents. In his first match he controlled the fight from start to finish and won 13-0 on points. He showed the same pressure, positional control and attention to detail that he teaches in class every day.

A Hard-Fought Second Match

His second match was against another tough opponent, and it was a close, competitive battle. Baldwin left everything on the mat. Every loss in jiu jitsu is a lesson, and he’s already bringing what he learned back to the academy to share with our students.

Why Competing Matters for Our Students

At Krossface Jiu Jitsu, we believe in leading by example. When our coaches compete, they test their technique under real pressure, stay sharp, and show students what it means to step outside their comfort zone. Whether you’re training for your first tournament or just want to get fit and learn self-defense, our classes are built on that same mindset.

Shout-Out to Our Friends at SF Empire

We also want to congratulate our friends from SF Empire, who brought home the hardware and put on some awesome matches throughout the day. The Jiu Jitsu community is built on relationships like these, and it was great to share the mats with them in Sacramento.

This Is Just the Beginning

The Sacramento Open marks the start of a new chapter for Krossface Jiu Jitsu as an IBJJF-registered academy. Expect to see more of our team at upcoming tournaments.
